Welcome to the “Opinando con Rey” blog! I don’t know of a one-word translation for “opinando”, other than to say it’s the expressing of opinions. So the literal translation would be “Expressing of Opinions with Rey”. A bit cumbersome, but it’s meant to be a blog for the exchange of ideas, where comments on articles are more than welcome. Rey would be me, and I initially started this blog with the purpose of expressing constructive social critiques of my home island of Puerto Rico. So naturally I began in Spanish.
But as the blog has taken shape, I’ve decided to branch out and include articles in English, hopefully attracting those who do not speak Spanish.
There’s a section about myself which I won’t translate completely, but basically I’m a retired engineer, married with three wonderful daughters and four beautiful grandchildren. Born in New York but raised almost entirely in Puerto Rico, which is where my wife and I have raised our family.
I love Puerto Rico and am extremely proud of being Puerto Rican. However, I also have a passion for expressing my thoughts regarding the challenges we face here in Puerto Rico, especially in these times of economic and fiscal crisis, exacerbated by the hit we took from Hurricane Maria in September of 2017.
But my purpose was also to branch out into other topics, and I also had the idea of eventually writing articles in English as well.
You’ll find a Category titled “English articles”, where I will be posting all those articles I write in English. Please feel free to comment on any and all articles as you wish, as well as commenting on other comments. Comments are moderated, so there will be a short wait period while I’m able to review the comment and approve it.
So welcome again to my blog, and I hope you find it enjoyable and interesting. I will try to touch on a variety of subjects, including those relevant to current events. Enjoy!
