I Had a Dream

So I had a dream the other night.

I dreamt I was at a Trump press conference.  A young woman journalist named Zola was asking Trump difficult questions.  Suddenly, Trump snapped angrily, “Are you stupid?!?”

The journalist immediately replies, “No, I’m not stupid.  But YOU… are an uncontrolled bully.  An incompetent leader who leads by intimidation and fear.  A lousy human being.  The worst, poor excuse of a President this country has ever had the misfortune of electing.  Oh… and by the way… YOU’RE stupid.”

She barely gets the words out before the Secret Service rushes her, takes away her microphone, and whisks her away.  The rest of the press conference is immediately cancelled.

Reaction is quick.  Her employers are quickly pressured (and threatened) to fire her immediately.  Other news outlets are warned not to hire her.  Trump and his administration quickly move to find reasons to:

a) arrest her,

b) deport her, or

c) make her life miserable.

BUT(and this is where the dream takes a turn)

Zola becomes a national heroine.  She gets invited to dozens of talk shows.  She receives invitations to speak at functions.  Thousands of people start “GoFundMe’s” to cover any loss of income, or other financial damages done to her by MAGA-Land.

Elated (and relieved) Congress members introduce legislation to put HER name on the Kennedy Performing Arts Center.  T-shirts proclaiming “Zola for President” pop up everywhere, and fly off the racks.

Politicians who had once checked their backbones at the door, suddenly become emboldened and begin chastising Trump for every single horrific thing he’s ever done.

MAGA cult members close ranks, much like buffalo encircling a wounded member of the herd.  But some jump ship, preferring not to go down in flames.

Decency, dignity, and class become popular again.  Racism and ignorance once again become relegated to their previous sub-human status.

THEN… I wake up and realize it was just a dream.

Still… I smoke a cigarette (and I don’t smoke).  Yes… it was good for me.
