Everybody just stop. Take a deep breath, and a moment for self-reflection. Observe what is happening with an open and objective mind.
It’s not even who’s right or who’s wrong anymore. It’s about a social decay that is happening before our very eyes. It’s about the unraveling of the moral fiber of our society in a few short years.
Frankly, I care less about the price of eggs nowadays than I do about the President of the United States getting involved in a hissy fit with a well-known musician. Insulting his talent and even his physical appearance in a hate-filled social post. Is this what we have come to expect from the highest office in the country?
The atrocities come at us so fast and furious, that we forget them as they sink into oblivion. Each one is worse than the last. Not long ago, the current Administration posted a video depicting former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle as apes. Forgotten, as new lows take its place.
This type of behavior would have been unthinkable in the past. Yet what you hear and read from followers, is that this is exactly what they voted for. This is approximately half of the country. A scary thought.
We can agree or disagree about the war with Iran. We can discuss immigration policies. We can have opinions on Venezuela. But do we have to continue watching as this President sinks lower and lower into abominable behavior??
Do we have to continue to turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to every “Shut up, piggy!” snarled by the President???
It cannot be overemphasized just how much damage all of this has caused in the eyes of the rest of the world.
But this is not even the scary part. The current President is old and increasingly erratic and feeble. At some point he will no longer be President. However, the damage done to the United States will be long-lasting, and in many aspects, irreparable.
In the 2005 movie, “War of the Worlds,” the giant tripods that terrorized the planet for some time (until they began to die off), didn’t arrive in some huge spaceship. They were already deep underground before getting activated.
The people who applaud, defend, and support the current President and his actions were not created by this President. They already existed. In other words, Donald Trump didn’t create a bunch of hateful bigots. He awakened a part of society that was already there but had been somewhat dormant.
He awakened, then empowered, an ugly part of United States society which is much more numerous than I would have ever imagined. Thus, this ugliness is not going to magically vanish once Trump is gone.
It is a cult, with all the characteristics of a cult. There is nothing anyone can do… nothing anyone can say… that will change the mindset of a cult member. The cult leader has carte blanche to wreak havoc on the very foundations of society. He has free rein to trample values, morality, and dignity. All while being defended and applauded.
It is a “Frankenstein-ish” blend between horror movie and comedy, where our amused laughter morphs into gasps of horror.
At my age, I never thought I would ever see the rapid descent of humanity we have been seeing over the last few years. As a Christian, it both saddens and angers me to see supposed “Christians” supporting Trump as he continues to make a mockery of Christian values.
Again, never mind whether the economy is better or worse. Those were the discussions of the past. (Nobody ever agreed, and graphs were twisted and distorted to push the agendas of each side).
The economy, immigration, foreign policy… all issues have taken a back seat to the pathetic circus we are being forced to witness in real time.
The Christian in me knows this is Biblical. Man is inherently sinful and will eventually self-destruct. All we can do is pray, and hope that God in His infinite wisdom protects those of us who believe in Him, and try to live in the way that God would want us to live.
I just wish society would take a collective deep breath, and take a look around at the MESS it has become.
A final thought:
The knee-jerk response to any criticism of Trump and his followers is receiving the label of TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome). The definition of “derangement” in the Cambridge Dictionary is as follows:
“The state of being completely unable to think clearly or behave in a controlled way, especially because of mental illness”
Now… let’s frame that in the context of the President of the United States posting that Bruce Springsteen is a “pushy, obnoxious JERK”, a “mentally incompetent FOOL”, “dumb as a rock”, and a “dried out “prune” of a rocker”, who “ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT.”
I rest my case.
Oops… sorry to drag this on. I had already written this article, when news broke of Trump’s latest exploit on social media.
Here you go…. a totally (cough) “Presidential” expression by the President of the United States.
